Fall Break Cultural Education/Service Learning Trip
Location: Petoskey/Harbor Springs – home of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians
October Friday, October 13 – Monday, October 16
Apply before September 18
Purpose: Education, cultural awareness, and understanding of the modern Native community; explore the theological framework of Catholic Social Teaching in the context of multicultural education; build equity and inclusion and communication skills; experience Northern Michigan geography and beauty and hopefully Fall Colors! Open to all majors and class standing.
Cost: Est. $250 due by October 5. Includes transportation, lodging, all activities and tickets, ferry tickets to Mackinac Island, some meals (2 lunches and one dinner on your own)
Space is limited! We will also have some readings and videos for you to watch before we go. Some of what we will learn and see will be difficult, we ask that you come with an open mind and the intention to learn.
Schedule:
Depart by 3 pm from Wege Lot on Friday, October 13
Return by 3 pm on Monday, October 16
We will be touring native and sacred lands of the LTBB Odawa Indians with members of the Tribe as our guides. Activities may include: Cross Village, Service project at Greensky, dinner with the tribal council, and a day trip to Mackinac Island as well as free time on your own in Petoskey.
